Postdoctoral position in Physics

We are seeking applicants for a 2 year-postdoctoral position to join us in the Optomechanics group at the Department of Physics and Astronomy in order to work with nanoguitar optomechanical resonators.

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a 2–year position from 1 August 2026 or as soon as possible.

The aim of the project is to develop “nanoguitar” optomechanical resonators for fundamental optomechanics and practical gas sensing applications. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to contribute to the design, fabrication and optical / structural / mechanical characterization of “string-on-drums” silicon nitride resonators, based on the group’s recent progress in this direction, and their use in various applications for gas sensing and metrology. Skills in nanolithography, atomic force microscopy, optical interferometry, vacuum technology, finite element method simulations will be involved.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Physics, Nano-science, Engineering or similar, experience with optics and / or nanofabrication being a plus.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him / her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.
