A position is available for a highly motivated candidate to join our group at the Neurogenetics Research Laboratory, the Danish Dementia Research Centre, Rigshospitalet, as soon as possible. The position is externally financed for 15 months with a possibility of extension. The position will concentrate on research within neurodegenerative diseases; in particular frontotemporal dementia linked to chromosome 3 and spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2), and viral-induced dementia.
The Danish Dementia Research Centre (DDRC), Department of Neurology, Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet, is dedicated to patient care, clinical research, and national educational services in the field of dementia. The clinic is a tertial referral centre for patients with familial and rare and young onset disorders. In the Neurogenetics Research Laboratory we focus on fundamental aspects of neurodegeneration, with particular emphasis on inherited dementias and polyQ disorders, anti-viral immune defense, and autophagy. In relation to the autophagy system, we have focus on autophagy cargo receptors and their involvement in clearance of neurotoxic protein aggregates (aggrephagy) and invading pathogens (xenophagy). The core areas of research comprise molecular mechanisms in neurodegeneration and development of new therapeutic strategies. For this purpose, we utilize stem cells generated from patients in our clinic, which we differentiate into brain-relevant 2D and 3D cell models.
